A pharmaceutical processor is a facility that has obtained a permit from the Board of Pharmacy pursuant to § 54.1-3408.3 and cultivates Cannabis plants for the production of cannabidiol oil or THC-A oil, and dispenses the oil to patients registered by the Board of Pharmacy for the treatment of intractable epilepsy.
The Board of Pharmacy is currently implementing a process for issuing pharmaceutical processor permits. It is anticipated that a Request for Application (RFA) process will open in the spring of 2018. This will allow sufficient time for the 2018 General Assembly to conclude its voting on several bills that may significantly impact the scope of this program. All interested persons are strongly encouraged to become a Registered User of the Regulatory Town Hall to receive notifications from the Virginia Board of Pharmacy. A public Notice regarding the RFA will be posted to Regulatory Town Hall and registered users will receive an electronic notification of this Notice when posted. Interested persons are also encouraged to review the current law, emergency regulations, and the frequently asked questions found on this webpage.
