The DHP License Lookup service is a free public information service provided by the DHP in partnership with VI for individual consumption by private citizens or employers making occasional or low volume requests to find pertinent information on health professionals licensed in Virginia. License Lookup data serves as primary source verification of the credential issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia and meets the requirements of the Joint Commission.
However, limits are in place. If you attempt to use License Lookup site to verify a large number of licenses without a subscription an error message will appear once the limit has been reached. For those wishing to access bulk license information, such as for staffing or marketing purposes, please go to the DHP Health Professional Data Services website.
For organizations wishing to download mailing information of health professionals licensed in the Commonwealth of Virginia, DHP has partnered with Virginia Interactive (VI) to provide License Database Download services conveniently online via the DHP Health Professionals Data Services website.
Consistent with JCAHO, NCQA, and other standards for primary source verification, the site is considered the official and primary source for DHP data. It provides the same information the agency provides through other means, such as fax or mail, only offered more conveniently, available 24/7 using the most up-to-date data and in the most requested and usable formats.

For organizations wishing to perform regular or high-volume license verifications of health professionals licensed in the Commonwealth of Virginia, DHP has partnered with Virginia Interactive (VI) to provide License Verification services conveniently online via the DHP Health Professionals Data Services website.

Also available on the DHP Health Professional Data Services website is the licensure and disciplinary notification service for employers, insurance companies, and others associated with Virginia's health care professionals.
Users can create a profile of the licenses and information they wish to track, such as license expiration and renewal, notice of proceeding and/or board action. Multiple licenses can be tracked simultaneously. The profile is compared daily, Sunday through Friday, to the Department of Health Professions’ (DHP) public information database. Any change in the status of the tracked licenses generates an alert that is sent to the appropriate user defined email address(s).

This subscription-based service is provided for convenience and does not replace or affect any of the agency’s existing free online services. The public may continue to conduct individual searches of licensees through License Lookup at no charge. The public also continues to have free access to the Physician Profile and the Recent Case Decisions databases provided through the DHP homepage located at www.dhp.virginia.gov.
