Scam Alert

Published on Oct 2, 2019

The Board has become aware that some of our licensees have received threatening scam calls and bogus written communications. The communications are designed to appear to be from the Virginia Board of Nursing. Some of the written documents may have an “official” look, but are fraudulent. Some of the calls appear to be coming from a DHP Board phone number but are not.

We have been informed that the calls or other communications apparently falsely state that your license is or may be suspended and that you need to take specific action. The originators of these fraudulent communications are seeking your personal information such as your social security number.

Please know that the Board will not send communications that seek your personal information. Please also know that the Board will not notify licensees of pending disciplinary actions by telephone.

Vigilance and appropriate skepticism are key to avoiding falling victim to those that run these scams. If you receive a communication that does not seem quite right, call or email the Board. Board staff will be happy to help you understand whether it is from the Board or a fraudulent communication.

The Board’s telephone number is (804) 367-4515, and the email is nursebd@dhp.virginia.gov
