The Virginia Board of Nursing consists of a 14-member Board, a 5-member Massage Therapy Advisory Board, as well as administrative, licensing, discipline, education, and support staff.
We regulate Nurses (RN and LPN), Advanced Practice Registered Nurses including Nurse Anesthetists and Nurse Midwives, Nurse Aides, Advanced Certified Nurse Aides, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Medication Aides and Massage Therapists. We also regulate Prescriptive Authority for Nurse Practitioners. The Board also approves and regulates in-state education programs for Nurses (RN and LPN), Nurse Aides, and Medication Aides.
Recent graduates, professionals licensed outside of Virginia, and those wanting to reinstate licenses.
The Department of Health Professions investigates complaints about Virginia healthcare practitioners who may have violated a regulation or law.
