Key Changes for Licensed Residents:
- May continue to renew their resident license and continue practicing under a Board approved supervisor while completing residency requirements, with no set time limit.
- Excess internship hours and internship supervision hours can no longer be counted toward residency requirements.
- Ancillary hours no longer need to be tracked.
- Supervised experience is no longer limited to four years; however, at least half of face‑to‑face client contact hours and half of supervision must be completed within two years of applying for independent licensure.
- Licenses must now be renewed annually, on or before June 30.
- Residents may elect to place their license in Inactive Status.
- The requirement to pass the examination within six years of initial licensure has been removed.
Important Note: Effective December 18, 2025, all Licensed Residents will be subject to these new regulations. Residents approved prior to this date may choose to meet either the current residency hour requirements or the new requirements when applying for independent licensure—whichever is less burdensome. Combining elements of both is not permitted.
