Press requests are accepted by the Office of Communications for Virginia’s 13 health regulatory boards; the Department of Health Professions (DHP) and its signature programs, the Prescription Monitoring Program (PMP), the Health Practitioner’s Monitoring Program (HPMP) and the Healthcare Workforce Data Center (HWDC).
Email sent to kelly.smith@dhp.virginia.gov is the most expedient way to receive a return reply to inquiries from the news media regarding licensees, changes in health regulatory laws or regulations and access to content expertise.
DHP adheres to the Virginia Freedom of Information Act to ensure access to public records and public meetings with exceptions as noted under the Commonwealth’s Regulatory Board Confidentiality Law- State Statute 54.1-2400.2.
All public information regarding Virginia’s 400,000 healthcare licensees and entities registered with a health regulatory board in the Commonwealth is available under Public Resources on DHP’s website under License Lookup. Disciplinary decisions made by health regulatory boards, within the past 90 days, are posted to Case Decisions.
