Reinstatement of a License to Practice as a Genetic Counselor in Virginia
Note: Reinstatement occurs after the license has been expired for 2 years. Do not proceed with the application if your license has been expired for less than 2 years.

What you'll need in order to apply:
Review the full set of Laws & Regulations regarding the practice of Genetic Counselors in the state of Virginia
Carefully read through the application instructions
Verification of professional licenses from all jurisdictions within the United States, its territories and possessions or Canada in which you have been issued a full license, sent directly from the applicable jurisdiction.
Evidence of competency to return to active practice: either 1) information on continued practice in another jurisdiction, 2) fifty hours of continuing education for each biennium in which the license has been inactive or lapsed (not to exceed 100 hours/4 years) or 3) recertification by passing the ABGC or ABGM exam.
Copies of documentation supporting any name change since your initial licensure in Virginia.
If you answer “yes” to any questions from 5 to 17 on the application, provide documentation to the Board from your attorney and provide a narrative explaining your answer. Please provide court documentation for any convictions.
Fill out the Reinstatement Application for a Genetic Counselor and send to the Board, along with any applicable fees.
Reactivate a Current Inactive Genetic Counselor License
The Inactive to Active application is for licenses that are currently in a Current Inactive status. If you want to return to a Current Active status, contact the Board at 804-367-4600, Option 2 for an application.

If your license has been in an expired status for more than two-years, will need to apply using the reinstatement application for your profession.
