What you'll need in order to apply:

  • Review the full set of Laws and Regulations regarding the practice of Acupuncture in the state of Virginia
  • Carefully read through the application instructions document.
  • Contact the NCCAOM to request evidence of passing the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) certification examination, and successful completion of the Clean Needle Technique (CNT) course be provided to the Board
  • If your native language is not English, you will need to have your TOEFL/TSE Scores submitted directly from TOEFL/TSE.

Licensure in Virginia

  • Forward the NCCAOM Certification Form to NCCAMM to request proof of certification, successful completion of the Practical Examination of Point Location Skills (PEPLS) and of successful completion of the Clean Needle Technique (CNT) course
  • If your native language is not English, you will need to have your TOEFL/TSE Scores submitted directly from TOEFL/TSE.

Applicants licensed in another state/jurisdiction:

  • NPDB Self-Query: Complete the online Place a Self-Query Order form and verify your identity.
  • Professional License Verification: Please contact the applicable jurisdiction where you have been issued a license to practice acupuncture to inquire about having verification of your license forwarded to the Virginia Board of Medicine.

Graduate of Non-ACAOM-Approved, Non-Evaluated Program  

Before continuing with your application, have your educational course of study in acupuncture evaluated by a credential evaluation service approved by the Board. Any members of NACES (National Association of Credential Evaluation Services) that provides course-by-course evaluations are acceptable.  If the evaluation service does not provide a copy of the original transcripts as well as an English translation as part of their report, the applicant will be required to have the documents translated into English and certified by a translating service or embassy of the issuing government.

Reinstatement

What you’ll need to apply:

Download and complete the Reinstatement application for an Acupuncture license

  • Review the full set of Laws & Regulations regarding the practice of Accupuncture in the state of Virginia
  • Carefully read through the application instructions
  • Jurisdiction Clearance (Form C) must be received from all jurisdictions in the US and Canada where you have been licensed certified or registered.
  • NPDB Self Query – Complete the online “Place a Self-Query” Order form.
  • Verify your identity. This can be done electronically as part of your ”Place a Self-Query” order or by completing a paper form and having it notarized.
  • Forward the NCCAOM Certification Form to NCCAMM to request proof of certification, successful completion of the Practical Examination of Point Location Skills (PEPLS) and of successful completion of the Clean Needle Technique (CNT) course.
  • Copies of documentation supporting any name change since your initial licensure in Virginia.
  • Send documentation, along with required fee (check or money order made payable to the "Treasurer of Virginia"), to the Board.

Late Renewal  

You are eligible to renew your Acupuncturist license during the two years after license expiration. You will need to pay the renewal fee, plus a late fee.  You may submit your late renewal using the Online Licensing website.

 

Reactivate a Current Inactive status License  

 

  • The Inactive to Active application is for licenses that are currently in a Current Inactive status. If you want to return to a Current Active status, contact the Board at 804-367-4600, Option 2 for an application.
  • If your license has been in an expired status for less than two-years, you are able to renew it using your established login credentials here. If you need assistance with your login credentials, contact our HelpDesk at 804-367-4444.
  • If your license has been in an expired status for more than two-years, will need to apply using the reinstatement application for your profession.
