Applied Psychologist-Applicants

The Licensed Applied Psychologist is a psychologist who, by education and experience, is professionally qualified at the autonomous practice level to apply the principles and methods of psychology to the improvement of organizational function, personnel selection and evaluation, program planning and implementation, individual motivation, development and behavioral adjustment, and consultation on teaching and research.   You can apply for licensure as an Applied Psychologist by Examination or by Endorsement. 

It is strongly recommended that you review the Regulations Governing the Practice of Psychology  and the Applied Psychologist Licensure Process Handbook before submitting an application.

 Important Reminders for All Applicants

• Virginia law states that in order to practice applied psychology, individuals are required to either hold a current active license as an applied psychologist issued by the Virigina Board of Psychology, or meet one of the exemptions to licensure in Law 54.1-3601.
• Providing false or misleading information as well as omitting information in response to information requested in the application or as part of the application process is considered falsification of the application and may be grounds for denial of or taking disciplinary action against an existing registration, certification, or license.
• Incomplete applications will remain active for one year from the date of payment. If your application is still incomplete after the one-year timeframe, you will be required to re-apply by submitting a new application, fee, and documentation pursuant to the regulations at that time.
