2023 Findings Show Virginia’s Behavioral Healthcare Professionals are Increasingly at or Near Retirement Age as Efforts Ramp Up to Better Reflect Racial and Ethnic Diversity Among Practitioners

The Department of Health Professions’(DHP) Healthcare Workforce Data Center (HWDC) is in a unique position to provide valuable supply-side data to help meet the growing behavioral healthcare needs of Virginians.

From Psychiatrists, Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioners and Clinical Psychologists to Licensed Clinical Social Workers and Licensed Professional Counselors—Virginia’s Behavioral Health Practitioners licensed by DHP are in high demand to meet the needs of more than 8 million residents.  DHP HWDC now collects and updates data regarding the expansion of this workforce.
